1.      Review : Theories of Semantics : Merits and Limitation
a.      Demograph
Title                 : Theories of Semantics : Merits and Limitation
Authors            : Saleh Mustafa Ramadan (Al-Zayootah Private University of Jordan)
and Taleb I. Ababneh (Irbid National University-Jordan)
Pages               : 9 Pages
This journal tells about the main assumptions, merits, and limitation of three main theories of meaning. They are : referential theory of meaning, the non-referential theory of meaning, and generative grammarian theory meaning. The strengthness of this journal are :
Ø  It uses many theories and definitions from experts.
Ø  It writing systematic is neat and easy to read.
Ø  In each sub-topics, it gives us clear examples.
The weakness of this journal is :
Ø  There are some text that out of the line (nggak beraturan) and makes us hard to read that passages.

2.      Review : Frame Semantics A Brief Introduction
a.      Demograph
Title     : Frame Semantics A Brief Introduction
Author : Diego Gavagna (Aarhus University)
Page    : 14 Pages
This journal tells about the frame of semantics. It is a research program in empirical semantics that analyses words’ meanings “emphasizing the continuities, rather than the discontinuities, between language and experience”. This journal give us new knowledge about what actually frame semantics is, why does it develop, etc. The strengthness of this journal are :
Ø  It focuses on frame semantics only. So we can focus to learn it too.
Ø  It uses theories from some experts, for example Charles J. Filmore.
Ø  It has  pictures and table so that the readers wouldnot get boring.
The weakness of this journal is :
Ø  It uses some unfamiliar vocabs (for me) and it need sometime to understand it (in my opinion)

3.      Review : Modern Linguistics Semantics
a.      Demograph
Title     : Modern Linguistics Semantics
Author : Kate Kearns (Senior Lecturer of Department of Linguistics in University of
  Canterbury, New Zealand)
Uploaded by    : Pooja Saikia in Academia.edu
This journal tells us about the kinds of meaning. Theya are denotation and sense, and also lexical and structural meaning. We are invited to know the relation between denotation and sense. For instance, a word cow, have sense some one pointing out to the cow and says “That’s a cow!”. And for the lexical and structural meaning, we need to understand that some words that form a sentence, by replacing each words to other position we can have new meaning/idea. The strenghtness of this journal are :
Ø  It gives examples related to the topic.
Ø  The vocabullaries that this journal use are familiar.
Ø  It also has review of what we have learnt.
The weakness of this journal is :
Ø  Somehow, there are some theories/topics that can make readers confused.

4.      Review : Semantics
a.      Demograph
Title                 : Semantics
Uploaded by    : Abdullah Cglyn at Academia.edu
Page                : 14 Pages
This journal tells about what semantics is, and it gives some theories related to semantics such as truth-conditional semantics, tautologies, contradictions, synthetic sentences, entailment, ambiguity, sense, synonymy, metonymy, etc. Eventhough it is just 14 pages, it gives clear and brief information for all sub-topics. Plus, it gives examples, too. The strenghtness of this journal are :
Ø  It looks like a paper which our teacher’s gave to us. It has brief explanation but clear.
Ø  It has examples related to each topics
Ø  It is quite complete even it just a paper
Ø  Each sub-topics use Bold font
The weakness of this journal are :
Ø  It’s writing systematical is not really neat. For me, when I read this journal I cannot enjoy it.
Ø  Vocabullaries that use in this journal is unfamiliar for (almost all of that)
Ø  It would be nice if the passages is on a justify mode.

Let Me Tell You ! : Polysemy

Click here ! for the thesis pdf.

1.   Definition of Polysemy

Polysemy stands from POLY = MANY and SEMY = SIGN. Polysemy refers to the coexistence of many possible meanings for a word or phrase. It has different but related meaning. Word becomes polysemous if it can be used to express different meanings. The difference between these meanings can be obvious or subtle. It is sometimes difficult to determine whether a word is polysemous or not because the relations between words can be vague and unclear. But, examining the origins of the words can help to decide whether a word is polysemic or homonymous. Note that polysemy is different from homonymy; two words are homonyms if they look / sound the same, but have completely unrelated meanings.  On the other hand, polysemy refers to the different meanings that a single word has but it still have relation.

2.  The Differences Between Polysemy and Homonymy

3.  Examples of Polysemy

a.    In English

ü  head = kepala (bagian tubuh) – kepala (pimpinan)
ü  water = air – menyiram
ü  wood = kayu – hutan
ü  milk = susu – memerah susu

1. Toni jatuh dari motor.
2. Harga cengkeh jatuh pada tahun ini.
3. Setelah tiba di rumah, ia jatuh sakit.
4. Nilainya jatuh sehingga harus mengulang lagi di kelas XI.

ü  Kepala, in examples :

        1.    Kepala = bagian tubuh paling atas
        2.   Kepala kereta api = lokomotif
        3.   Kepala stasiun = pimpinan stasiun

ü  Buah, in examples :

        1.    Buah apel merupakan oleh oleh khas kota malang
: kata buah bermakna buah buahan

       2.   Ayana memiliki buah hati yang bernama Yuki
: kata buah bermakna anak

       3.   Nadzar membawa buah tangan dari kota Madura
: kata buah bermakna oleh-oleh

ü  Darah, in examples :

        1.    Saya masih punya hubungan darah dengan keluarga Bu Rani.

Short Story : Recount Text

Unforgettable Day

It was a nice afternoon on July as usual. I was sitting on terrace, starring around. My mother fed the chickens as usual on the septic-tank. At that time, my mom was pregnant. Everything looked fine until something ruined that fine day.
When my mother fed the chickens, the septic-tank collapsed all of a sudden. Spontaneously, my mother shouted for help and I heard that sound. After that, I ran toward the sound and discovered that my mom sunk into the septic-tank. Then, I looked for a help. I went to my neighbour's house and asked them to helo my mom. Soon, they helped my mom and when my kom rescued, they cleaned her. At night, my mom and dad went to hospital to checked her pregnancy. Fortunately, the fetus was okay.
Since that day, my family never fed the chickens on the septic-tank. We never forget that day. That was an unforgettable day in our life.

REVIEW : SEMANTICS AND THEORIES OF SEMANTICS

“Semantics and Theories of Semantics” is a journal that is compiled by Abbas Bukhari. This journal is uploaded by Zain Ez+1 at academia.edu. There is 15 pages in this journal that talks about semantics, one of the branches of pure linguistics that is studying meaning in language.

This journal tells us the difficulties in the study of meaning. There are grammatical meaning and lexical meaning that we need to know. Not only that, we can know other aspects of meaning of a word by read this journal. It helps us to know more about terms that is in semantics. For example hyponymy, synonymy, antonymy, polysemy, homonymy, and collocation.

The strengthness of this journal are :
1.      There is colour that differentiates the sub topic’s title or some important word and the content of the topic. Also, they give bold at words or sentences that is important (key word).
2.      Words that is used in this journal is quite easy to understand. So, readers from overseas may understand it.
3.      It gives us examples for each sub topics. So, we can understand more.
4.      The content is good for the beginner.

Beside that, there is also some weakness in this journal, they are :
1.      The systematic of writing this journal is not really good, like there is no paragraph line. It makes readers get bored easily.
2.      There is a watermark on it that makes readers do not enjoy when read it.
3.      In page 14 until 15, there are theories that I still confused.

Every book or journal usually have the strengethness and also weakness on it. So that, we need to read other references to gain our knowledge.

The Use of Banners and Posters As Campaign Supporting Medias

Campaign is the way in which the candidates of head of region to gain the sympathy and support from the society. By doing so, they will win the election. When campaigning, all of the candidates of head of region using banners and posters as one of the campaign supporting medias. The banners are usually placed at side of large street and posters that are patched on the walls of the narrow street.
In one hand, using banners and posters as one of campaign supporting medias is a good step to introduce the candidates of head of region to society. By looking at the banners and posters we can know our candidates like their face, their vision and mission, and their serial number for election. It will help the society to make a choice because they become more familiar with the candidates especially for the beginner voters.
In the other hand, the use of banners and posters as one of campaign supporting medias makes our environment look disorganized and dirty. Installation of banners and posters which is untidy and random make it looks unsightly. In fact in Pekanbaru, all of the candidates use banners and posters but the installation of the banners is just using small wood to buffer it. Unfortunately, when rain comes, it will fall apart.
So, using banners and posters as one of the campaign supporting medias is good. It gives some advantages for us. But, usually the installation of banners and posters is random and make environment looks dirty. It will be nice if the installation is nice and not excessive.

Let Me Be You Ep 2

“Sial ! Kok bisa-bisanya sih telat gini ?!”, kesalku sambil berlari menuju sekolah yang tak jauh dari kos ku. Aku Lisa, gadis biasa dari kelas 11 IPA 5 SMA Cemara Bandung. Nggak biasanya aku telat datang ke sekolah. Walau hanya berjalan kaki tapi aku nggak pernah sekalipun telat datang. Hmmmm… ini pasti gara-gara tadi malam. Susu itu pasti penyebabnya. “Emang itu susu apaan sih ? Obat tidur kali ya ?”, aku masih saja kesal dengannya.
“Lis…”, sapa Tita teman sebangku ku. “Liat deh”, ujarnya sambil menyodorkan cermin kecil berbingkai dengan warna serenity miliknya. Keherananku bertambah karena tingkah cewek di sebelahku ini. “Waaaaa!!!”, teriakku yang tak percaya dengan yang ku lihat dicermin milik Tita. “Ini aku ?”, gumamku sambil memegang wajah yang terlihat berbeda ini. Padahal tadi aku nggak pakai bedak apalagi make up, kok bisa jadi gini ?
“Sejak kapan lu pinter pakai make up?”, ujarnya ketus.
“Apa salahnya aku membela diri.
Sakit sekali. Mules-mules nggak jelas. Tapi setelahnya aku merasa mengantuk yang amat sangat. Tak heran kalau aku telat pagi ini. Coba aku minum lagi deh nanti malam, apa bener reaksinya sama dengan yang terjadi semalam. Tapi kalau aku minum lagi, apa bakal ngerubah penampilan lagi ? Duuh, gimana dong ?
“Oi, mikirin apaan neng ?”, ujar Tita sambil menepuk bahuku. “Serius amat.”, tambahnya.
            Swuuuuut…
Sebuah bola basket melayang di atas kepalaku danTita. Hampir saja kepala kami terlepas dari tempatnya. Jantung juga seperti mau copot. “Siapa sih yang main ? Nggak becus banget”, rutukku dalam hati. Suddenly, seorang pria berperawakan bak model berlari kearah ku dan Tita. Ya Ampuuuun. Bisa ditebak dong siapa orangnya. Kak Ken. Lututku langsung lemas mengetahuinya. Oke, aku harus act normally, jangan sampai Tita atau kalau aku naksir kak Ken. “Maaf ya… maaf. Kalian nggak apa-apa kan ?”, ucapnya seakan khawatir kepada kami. “Iya nggak apa-apa kok, Kak.”, balas Tita. “Hek.
Disana memang tempat nongkrong anak-anak SMA Cemara kalau pulang sekolah. Menyusuri jalan menuju tempat tujuan. Tiba-tiba……
